Landing into Product Management

 From School days itself, Computer Science was the one subject which fascinated me a lot. This Fascination turned into Interest as classes got higher. Finally during class 12th , decision was made by me to pursue a career in the field of Information Technology.

After 4 years of Engineering, worked in a Network Analyst Role for 2 years and post that secured a seat in Symbiosis Institute of Operations Management to pursue 2-Year Full-time MBA (Operation Management). Still, had the knack for Technology and developed a new fascination towards Data Science and AI/ML during MBA

Fortunately, got the chance to start my Career in the most happening role of the decade - Product Management

And here I am - nearly completing 1 year into Product Management, working as a AI & Data Product Manager. My learning in the last 1 year comprises of a blend of Operational and Strategic areas alongwith People Management and Soft Skills

Some of my learnings during the last 1 year

  • Need to get hands dirty on the product we manage, just overview will not be helpful in the long term, need to identify details
  • Need to learn from the basics
  • Need to stop assuming things
  • Need to learn how Senior PM’s strategize and divide work into operational chunks
  • Need to have a roadmap for the Product
  • Need not shy away from accepting that we do not understand or know any particular area
  • Build Products/Features which is actually of value to the Customer
  • Prioritize
  • Collaborate as much as possible
  • If in any doubt, do not hold on, take immediate advice from Senior PM’s or Engineering

In Addition to above pointers, many other things are there but these are main areas

As I continue to grow in this Field, I continue to learn new aspects every single day
